Kavala

Kavala is the most developed city of East Macedonia and Thrace, a beautiful tourist destination. It is a city with a rich culture and history. Kavala town is located on the slopes of hills, built at the foot of Mount Simvolo. There is a large harbor and an equally large marina. It is one of the main fishing centers of Greece. One of the largest fish markets in the Mediterranean is located here. From here, goods are shipped to many domestic and international markets.

The historic center, the old town, is also called the Panagia neighborhood. Here at the fortress are pretty cobbled streets and beautiful neoclassical buildings. Most of the fortress was built in the first quarter of the 15th century on the ruins of the Byzantine Acropolis. Today, it is a place where visitors and local residents come to stroll or visit the open-air theater and attend cultural events.

Kavala has a lively market and bustling business community. The terraces are ideal places for ouzo and mezedes (Greek tapas). The harbor is perfect for short walks along the harbor wall. A great place to look out over the long stretches of beach and the small villages further afield. In the narrow streets of the Agios Nikolaos district, close to the main square, it seems as if time has stood still. The modern, large commercial shops are on the other side between Omonia Street and Venizelou Street. These two shopping areas are connected by the modern municipal market building. This place is buzzing with life when the locals come out to eat here. The market is clean and offers a wide range of fresh products.
