Alexandroupoli

Alexandroupoli is the capital of Evros Prefecture. This city is located 15 kilometers from the Turkish border. With about 50,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in Thrace. Alexandroupoli is a modern city that is growing rapidly, as the port and the airport play a very important role in this development. This city was only liberated from the Turks in 1919 and was named Alexandroupoli, after it was visited by King Alexander I of Greece in 1920.

Alexandroupoli is a city with great culture, museums and a lively boulevard. It is not very touristy yet; here, you are among the Greeks. There is a campsite on the beach and there are several hotels and apartments located in the city, in different price ranges. In the city you will find many shops, taverns and restaurants, where you can eat well and affordable. There are clean beaches, with clear sea water where you can snorkel well. A day trip to Turkey or Samothraki is possible.
